The Nice carnival is back this year, to the immense joy of inhabitants, shop owners and visitors. After being cut short in 2020 and canceled in 2021 due to the pandemic, the Carnival opens again this year to more than 85,000 spectators. The Nice Carnival is one of the three largest carnivals in the world and one of the oldest; the first edition dating back from 1873. It is even said that the famous carnival of Rio was inspired by the one in Nice! The number of visitors is nevertheless reduced this year, only in closed spectator stands and with an important security device with more than 200 police officers. The opening ceremony was held on Friday February 11 in the presence of Mayor Christian Estrosi and an audience of 5 000 spectators.
